Basset Hounds and the Holidays!
Basset Hounds and the Holidays! The holidays are just around the corner so now is the time to prepare! First, are you having guests over? You might want to explain the rules of your house. Is your hound allowed to have food from the table, get on the couch or jump up at guests? Whatever your answer you will find it easier for everyone if you tell your guests as they enter your home. This way you aren't as stressed when someone allows it and hopefully it's easier to correct. Does your hound slobber and drool? If so, carry paper towels in your pocket and wipe your hounds face and lips throughout the event. Make sure trash is put in the right place so a curious hound doesn't have the chance to eat something they are not allowed to or eat something that could be dangerous to them.
Have a comfortable place for your Basset Hound to rest and sleep throughout the event. Even if this place is in the middle of the room...as long as your hound is happy. Feed your hound before guests arrive with enough time for your hound to settle and avoid getting excited right after or before they eat. We always wait at least 3 hours after eating before exercise and play with Bentley Waffles. If you need to feed your Basset Hound while guests are in your home, tell your guests not to play with or get your hound excited after your hound is finished their meal.
Be careful with low hanging decorations and lights. Is your hound a chewer? Keep them away from things that will hurt them. Use baby gates or chairs to block off areas where there might be a hazard. Some fun decorations could be holiday pillows or pillowcases. We have new designs in our shop for the holidays. But always remember to be careful and have fun. Allow your Basset Hound to be included and be a part of the festivities!
